Buying Turkey Property Guide

Buying Turkish Property - Legal Matters

Below you can find a short introduction to the main legal matters to take into consideration when buying a property in Turkey. This is not meant to be a complete guide and we highly recommend seeking independent advice from a Turkeyn lawyer before you buy or sign any binding documents.

Who Can Buy Property in Turkey?
Depending on the area, there are different requirements for foreigners purchasing property in Turkey; the process of obtaining Title Deeds, for example, varies from one resort to the next. It can take anywhere between two months to an entire year (in all cases, buyers must wait until a military check is performed and the deeds are authorized).

Foreigners are allowed to purchase property in Turkey as long as they come from a country where Turkish nationals are permitted to do so as well.

Before 2003, foreigners could only buy property in certain major urban areas, but this law has been changed and foreign buyers are now allowed to buy anywhere except for within village boundaries and on military land.

Foreign property owners are also allowed to rent their property, and any money generated this way can be moved out of Turkey without problems (different laws apply to business and investment property; further information on these regulations should be requested at a Turkish embassy or consulate).
